What is music therapy?
Music therapy is an interpersonal process in which the therapist uses music and all of its facets-physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and spiritual-to help clients to improve or maintain their health. In some instances, the client’s needs are addressed directly through music; in others they are addressed through the relationships that develop between the client and therapist.
Your Body on the Beach
Relaxing by the ocean is like taking a mental-health holiday – but it also sets off a series of fascinating physical effects.
As yoga becomes increasingly diffuse and diverse, a single, common definition that can be agreed upon by everyone is all but impossible. Complicating matters further, the term yoga has been in use for several thousand years and has shifted in meaning many times. Since my primarily concern is the modern interpretation of the physical practices of yoga, it is there that we will look for our definition.
Palm Tree Clinic’s therapy programme is developed and facilitated by a team of therapists who are passionate about emotional wellbeing. We have experience in clinical and academic settings and we use our programme to share therapeutic methods that we believe facilitate healing. Within the groups we aim to provide a supportive space for expression in order to promote personal growth and sustained recovery. Our focus is strongly on self-awareness, experiential learning and practical life skills, to encourage members to integrate skills, to give feedback and then to explore further insights.
Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice.
Palm Tree Clinic offers a variety of psychological services on an in-patient and out-patient basis to ensure the sustained well-being of clients. The in-house psychologist is Elise Beeby, a clinical psychologist that has established a network with fellow psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and other health care providers to enable continued therapy support.
Psychiatric disorders are often a misunderstood area of medicine. And this often leaves patients feeling isolated and confused about their symptoms, their diagnosis and the consequent management.
In- Patient Group Counselling
As part of the services included in our in-patient programme at the Palm Tree Clinic, patients will be required to join the mandatory group counselling sessions that take place daily. An interactive three-week program has been designed by the multi-disciplinary team at the clinic and covers a variety of topics integral to the learning / growth process that is encouraged and facilitated during the patients’ stay at the clinic.
Out-Patient Support Groups
Palm Tree Clinic provides all its patients with ongoing support after discharge. Patients are encouraged to attend the aftercare support group which is facilitated at the clinic on Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30pm. This group, using DBT and CBT principles, provides the opportunity for group members to further develop life skills, as well as to gain necessary support. This 8-week aftercare programme has been designed by the multi-disciplinary team at the clinic and focuses on different skills each week.
